About Lorena Copil

Curating information about who you are and presenting it in appealing ways for various contexts is both a temptation and a challenge. Not because you don't know what to showcase, but because it always leaves you doubting:"Was that enough?","Was that comprehensive?". It ocurred to me that maybe the best way to discover someone's skills is to let them play with something, while the best way to discover someone's dreams is to invite them over for a cup of tea. Idealistic, of course. Yet not so far from what genuine interactions can actually bring out of people. I'm lately busy wondering about what words like "connection" and "genuineness" mean; wondering how we can make them part of our working environments."Can we reassess our relationship with work?";"Is it necessary to separate our professional and personal lives? Can we find balance without dissociation?";"Can we reframe the idea of work in itself?"- these are some of the questions I juggle with. Some of these wonderings catch shape within Re:form, an experimental programme for rethinking cultural work, implemented by Cluj Cultural Centre. The process is slowly building up, inviting us to reflect on the fragility and potential of work in the cultural sector. There's too much burnout around to not question the systemic oppression that (independent) culture professionals are exposed to. But there is also an avid hope for and a constant exploration of doing things differently.
