Background
About Lorena Galliot
I’m a French-Venezuelan-American journalist, producer and editor. My versatile and creative approach to storytelling spans podcasts, documentaries, print, children’s stories and educational content. As an audio producer, I put my native trilingualism to use crafting audio stories in French, Spanish and English for Adonde Media and Duolingo. Our award-winning podcasts reached millions of listeners around the world and regularly hit the #1 spot in educational podcasts on Apple and Spotify. Before that, I worked with some of New York City’s leading independent production companies, making documentaries on topics ranging from climate change to wrongful convictions to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. Projects I’ve worked on have aired on Netflix, ABC News, CNN, National Geographic, Showtime and more. My written work has been published in The Christian Science Monitor, Scientific American, Grist, The Daily Climate and The New York Times. Before moving to New York in 2011, I was a staff reporter for France 24.com in Paris. My areas of strength include: Finding stories. There are great stories everywhere if you know where to look. Conducting in-depth, thoughtful interviews and cultivating relationships with sources. Taking new and often complex information, distilling it, and laying it out on ‘paper’ (ie. article or podcast script or video script or newsletter or film treatment or pitch or social post or memo.) in a compelling way. Tailoring content to be accessible to diverse target audiences, from elementary-age kids to global language learners. Coaching guests and hosts in the recording studio, helping them feel comfortable and able to perform their best. Receiving a story draft as an editor and iterating, refining, focusing, collaborating with the writer to make their stories shine. When I’m not at my desk or out reporting, you can usually find me hanging out with my kiddos, salsa dancing with my husband or munching on something chocolate. Deep down, everyday people’s lives and their stories are what I care about the most.
