About Lori Ann Post

Dr. Lori Ann Post is an injury control scientist with a primary focus on policy and injury prevention. She holds a Ph.D. and Masters in Sociology/Demography and pursued her postdoctoral work in Epidemiology. Dr. Post holds the Buehler Chair for Aging in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. She is also the inaugural director of the Buehler Center for Health Policy & Economics. Dr. Post's research revolves around critical issues such as drug overdose deaths, mass shootings, and violence prevention. Throughout her career, she has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed works, gaining wide recognition and acclaim within the academic community. Her contributions have earned her numerous professional accolades, and she has 26 years of continuous federal research grant funding. As a seasoned Demographer and Epidemiologist, Dr. Post has designed and implemented behavioral and disease surveillance systems and employing evidence-based policies for actionable research. Her current endeavors include an array of injury control studies relating to the opioid and other drug crises. This encompasses an in-depth analysis of patterns, hotspots, and spatial heterogeneity of drug overdose deaths, as well as a focus on the economic drivers of the drug crisis concerning supply and demand dynamics. Her second line of research concentrates on testing policies that effectively curb mass public shootings. By meticulously identifying the histories and precipitating events of mass shooters, she aims to uncover missed intervention opportunities to prevent future incidents.
