About Lori Clapp

With a unique mix of passion, skill and experience, my aim as History and Heritage Specialist is to raise awareness and understanding of Strathcona County’s history and heritage within the organization and the community. The work considers human cultural history and intangible cultural heritage; the focus is local within regional, provincial and national contexts. Having initiated the Community Heritage Legacy program back in 2006, we have since found there are endless opportunities to weave all things history into what we do everyday. History and heritage infuse depth and meaning into the community fabric. They instill a sense of belonging and community identity, and help create a fulsome sense of place. It is important to give local history and heritage the spotlight they deserve, and to preserve them for future generations. As a communications professional with a Bachelor of Arts General from the University of Alberta, I bring to the role my own blended experience in communications planning; local government; research, writing and editing; with a bit of nerdy history buff on the side. We all have our strengths. While I have ample vision for how history and heritage can enrich a community, I am open and eager to learn from others who may be well versed in the local history scene and historic research practices, or who just want to share their own interest and story.
