About Lori Jacobson

I’ve been working in the entertainment industry for 40 years professionally. I began as a performer and a classical/operatic singer, and my earlier education was in technical theatre. I’ve worn many hats in that time from actor to stage manager to assistant director to scenic design. Live entertainment is my passion and it has evolved into a successful career as a costume designer. My beginnings in live theatre and television and the fact that I still am a performer makes me uniquely situated to make better design decisions for every genre of talent. For the past 15 years I have run my own business as a freelance Costume Designer. I specialize in design and fabrication of costumes for acrobats, aerialists and all kinds of other circus performers as well as world-class dancers, magicians and musicians. I also work a good deal in corporate entertainment as a costume designer for live performance. I do everything from design and concept illustration to budgeting, materials sourcing, fabrication.to recruitment and leading a workroom for production to organizing and running the costume operations for an entire show. I also enjoy working on a film set from time to time. After graduation from fashion school in 2019, I worked for two seasons of Halloween Horror Nights and Grinchmas as a costume creator. I then freelanced for several years. I was offered a position with Six Flags as a lead patternmaker and designer for entertainment offerings at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA in 2022. At Knott's I did everything from building special projects for events to creating for characters and talent in the park, to a year-round production schedule for our biggest event every year: Knott's Scary Farm. I was the costume designer and project manager of the 50th Anniversary reimagining of The Gauntlet Scare Zone and designed and produced costumes for two new mazes in the park for our 51st year in the horror business: WIDOWS and EIGHT FINGERS NINE, THE BOOGEYMAN. Upon completion of those two projects, I was offered an opportunity to return to the Walt Disney Company to use my skills as an artist and craftsperson in the Parades Department in Entertainment. I’m a product developer and I maintain and create soft goods for moving shows, utilizing my time management, construction, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills in a highly collaborative and details-oriented environment.
