About Lorrie Brooks

Though very aware of the strategic priorities of our health authority, my greatest strengths are in managing organizational priorities, especially in regard to staff and budget management. Assertive hiring practices have markedly decreased our over time costs and staff retention strategies have improved morale and decreased sick time over the last four years. I strongly endorse leadership succession planning and life-long learning. Yearly performance appraisals have helped to identify staff who are interested in having leadership training and experiences. A benefit of providing these experiences is to have a well coordinated team aware of each others'​ roles and practice strengths.I have completed LEAN Yellow and Green belts through Island Health and have finished training with the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council (https://bcpsqc.webex.com) Quality Academy. These quality improvement courses have helped in directing necessary changes to patient flow from inpatient to tertiary care and eventually to alternative community placements. This work is vital in ensuring continuing capacity to meet seniors and adult mental health population increases over the next two decades.My current role manages an inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit and the ECT clinic at the RJH Campus, a special care MHSU community unit at Glengarry Hospital, the Addictions Medicine Consultation Service, and I am the MHSU Manager for the Ministry of Health Workforce Development Agreement (WDA) participant data collection within Island Health.
