About Lu Xing

I am a scientist and chartered engineer (CEng, FHEA) with over 15 years of global experience in energy systems and material innovation, focusing on AI for green energy, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, and sustainable energy storage. Currently, I serve as an Associate Professor at Northumbria University (UK), where I lead cross-disciplinary research on the application of AI in energy systems and materials. My research includes areas such as batteries, smart grids, and hydrogen production. I have been the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator (Co-I) for research and development projects totaling over £14 million, funded by prominent organizations such as EPSRC, Innovate UK, and national research institutes. Additionally, I serve as the Chair of the Partner Portfolio for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (ReNU+). My experience also includes multiple projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Beyond academia, I have served as Chief Scientist for a battery spin-out, where I developed the R&D strategy. I am also the Principal Scientific Advisor for Innovate UK's ICURe projects. My background includes experience in government policy with the China Science and Technology Exchange Center, industry with Accenture, and academia across Europe, the U.S, and Asia.
