I caught the coding bug. From a very young age, I had always thought being an Airline Pilot would be the most incredible job on earth. Being able to discover and visit new cities, getting immersed in new cultures, and of course, being able to fly at very high altitudes. I mean what’s not to like? While working in this role, I always yearned for efficiency. How can we save fuel/money? How can we ensure all the baggage is making it to the destination? How can we get there faster to ensure all the passengers make their connections? These are some of the problems, I was always itching to solve while in the flight compartment. Then, in early 2020, I was made redundant due to the pandemic. I had my fair share of experiencing all the stages of grief, but I didn’t let that deter me from moving forward. During this time, to keep my mind busy, I was trying to find something that would scratch my itch for problem-solving and creativity. Being a photographer hobbyist, I thought why not try becoming a professional? This would tick off one of my requirements, creativity, while the other, problem-solving, could be associated with Adobe Photoshop. The only problem was that I was no Photoshop expert by any means. So looking into Udemy courses to increase my skill in Photoshop, I actually stumbled upon Web Development. This has set me on a path I had never even considered, and one I have never looked back on. After a month of working through a Udemy course, I felt I was going nowhere. The course, in my opinion, didn’t go into enough depth, and I knew I needed another option. I discovered Lighthouse Labs Bootcamp, a three Month Immersive Full Stack Web Development Program, and I enrolled shortly after. In this boot camp, I’ve learned responsive design principles, website optimization, problem-solving, model view controller architecture, and how to quickly learn new programming languages, design patterns and frameworks. To date, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Groovy on Grails, Ruby on Rails, C#.NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, NextJS, Angular 2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, OracleDB, jQuery, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Bootstrap, MaterialUI, Testing Library, Jest, Enzyme, NodeJS, ExpressJS, GraphQL, AWS, GCP, Firebase, CI/CD (Gitlab CI/Github Actions) and Git (GitLab/BitBucket/GitHub). Also, I’m currently working on writing the AWS Associate Cloud Developer and AWS Associate Solutions Architect exams.
