About Luca Bartolini

I am devoted full time to bridging the gap between the physics lab and the clinics; a multidisciplinary effort with high-risk and high-reward that keeps challenging me and motivates my learning. The medical device that my group and I designed, built, and tested during my PhD resulted in some truly encouraging results. Now I can't wait to create an impact in people's lives with that, and I am actively developing the device further, focusing not only on the technical aspects but on the clinical, regulatory and commercial ones as well. Applied physicist with a penchant for technology transfer and a wide range of interests: born from an entrepreneur, my natural curiosity made me a T-shape scientist, with a broad multidisciplinary background and a deep knowledge of sensing systems. In the past, I split my time working between Academia and the private sector. As a *PhD researcher*, I lead a project involving technicians, doctors, and other physicists to design, build, develop, and test an innovative medical device. I have also co-written the IMDD application for ethical clearance, so that our instrument will be used in clinical trials to investigate the mechanical and optical properties of scars, with potential application on every type of skin. As *Research Engineer*, I worked for 30MHz, a precision-agriculture scale-up that is developing a platform to gather and display the data obtained by their custom-built greenhouse sensors. I worked on my own project of developing a GPS-less localization algorithm. While there, I helped with the solution of modeling, calibration, and worked on several hardware fixes.
