About Luca Cicala

Luca Cicala has academic and industrial research background. His main interests are vision based sensor applications for telecommunications (image and video coding), remote sensing (image understanding), geo-information processing (spatial analysis, multitemporal analysis, multisensor data fusion) and aerial video processing (video & navigation data fusion, video understanding). He has experience as researcher, system designer, R&D proposal manager, R&D project manager and research team manager. At CIRA (the Italian Aerospace Research Center), he worked at the following aeronautical and spatial applications: 1) video source coding for man in the loop UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) applications; 2) sensor fusion among imaging and navigation sensor on UAS platforms; 3) automatic target detection and tracking systems for UAS; 4) sensor aided motion imagery coding for UAS; 5) navigation and imaging sensor simulators; 6) vision based navigation for small UAS; 7) remote sensing image analysis for environmental monitoring; 8) geo-information services based on remote sensed image processing and artificial intelligence. He is reviewer for many international journals (MDPI Remote Sensing, Trans. on Image Processing, Trans. on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, Elsevier Signal Processing: Image Communication, Elsevier Aerospace Science and Technology) and is Topic Editor for MDPI Remote Sensing.
