About Luca Rustico
I'm an MSc candidate at York University, working under Dr. Ryan Hili to develop enzymatic methods for generating chemically-modified nucleic acid polymers. I'm particularly passionate about improving the therapeutic potential of nucleic acids though chemical diversification. I recently completed my HBSc in Biochemistry at York University, graduating first class with distinction. During my undergraduate studies, I joined the Hili Lab as a recipient of the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award, where I worked to evolve base-modified DNA aptamers against clinically-relevant protein targets. Previously, I conducted research in Dr. Jennifer Chen's group, developing core-satellite nanoparticles as biosensors and optimizing an MNAzyme molecular switch to trigger their disassembly.
