About Lucas Coster

I am a recent graduate from Queen’s University, where I earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Computer Engineering with a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I also completed a Certificate in Business through the Smith School of Business at Queen’s, strengthening my foundation in strategic thinking and business fundamentals. I am passionate about blending technical skills with creative problem-solving, and I’ve gained experience across a range of industries and platforms—from startups to personal projects. I am seeking a fulltime position in the computer engineering field. But in the interim, i operate my own computer consulting company and been working as a consultant. I have provided assistance on a range of computer related issues including database management, website enhancement, and point of sale system assistance. Previously, I worked as a Software Engineer at Briza, where I built and maintained a REST API using TypeScript. I contributed across the full stack, developing new features, fixing bugs, writing test cases, and working within an Agile environment using Git. This experience sharpened my understanding of professional coding practices and collaborative development. I also have been working part-time at a local brewery as well as a local ski club while building personal projects on the side. I explored game development with Unreal Engine and created apps using Javascript and python, broadening my design and development skills in a self-directed environment. During my time at Queen’s, I was a two-year member of QMIND, an AI-focused design team where I worked on cutting-edge projects. One highlight was developing a real-time 3D hand-tracking application that generated segmentation masks based on user hand movement. For my final-year Capstone Project, I collaborated with a team to build an AI-powered tool for early detection of ovarian cancer. Our system used a Random Forest model and a custom-built front-end to provide risk insights based on a dataset from the NCI. Our project achieved 80% accuracy and was awarded Best Software Project at the annual design showcase. We were also invited to present at the PEO and design competitions. I’m now looking for opportunities where I can bring my enthusiasm for software development, AI, and product innovation to meaningful and impactful projects.
