About Lucas Sheaffer

Currently I provide leadership to a Liberal Arts department that includes nine full-time and approximately 50 part-time faculty across seven sub-disciplines and provides the general education and Art History curriculum for all students at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. With the support of faculty, this role also engages in substantive curriculum development and assessment, writing program development, as well as the hiring and support of part-time faculty members in both an on-campus and online modality. In previous roles, I directed both core, writing-intensive courses required of all first year students during their fall and spring semesters. This work intersected with a number of co-curricular areas such as student success, retention, scholarship programs, and general education administration and curriculum. In addition, I have taught composition and literature courses emphasizing environmental literature, contemplative pedagogy, and composition studies. Most recent courses include "Writings of the Land,""Stories from the Margins," and "The American Short Story." My current research focuses on the ecocriticism and 20th American literature, specifically the impact of dams on the flow of water and the flow of the imagination in novels of the mid-twentieth century.
