About Lucas Tommervik

I am a 2019 graduate of Wake Forest University looking to move into 3d modeling and VFX. I am an analytically-oriented and self-disciplined young professional offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Wake Forest University alongside two and a half years of research at the Army Research Laboratory (ARL). It was after departing my role as a Materials Engineer at ARL that I discovered my true calling is working as a 3D Artist. I have spent the last year teaching myself the ins and outs of working in the 3D industry. I am experienced in Blender and Substance Painter and am particularly proficient when it comes to Prop and Character Modeling, Texturing and UV Unwrapping, and Retopology. I am also familiar with Rigging and Animation and have been particularly enjoying experimenting with procedural asset generation (Geometry Nodes in Blender as well as the recently added Simulation Nodes). I’ve modeled and textured numerous props and characters and consider my growth over the last year to be profound. During my time at ARL, I learned to work in a fast-paced, high powered environment, creating and executing research plans alongside a team of researchers. In addition, I taught myself any necessary skills which I did not already possess in order to succeed in the role, all the while hitting my deadlines. For example, I taught myself a new coding language (Visual Basic) and built a simplistic UI for a machine I operated to ease the transition of my departure. In my free time, I enjoy watching Major League Baseball (go Rockies!), perfecting my March Madness bracket, reading science-fiction, and playing video games.
