I have worked within social care since 2006 and have held a range of posts. I currently work as a Registration Inspector for the Care Quality Commission, specialising in applications for providers of services for people with a learning disability and people with autism. Prior to this role I worked as a Quality and Review Officer for for a local authority. Quality assurance/ compliance reviews were mainly undertaken at regulated services such as care homes, with care at home providers and learning disability services, I also reviewed non-regulated services such as homeless prevention and day centres/services. Reviews included ensuring providers were not only delivering safe and effective care in line with contractual and legal requirements, but the care and support being received by the service users, was being delivered in the way they wanted, and with dignity and respect. I would work with providers to improve their services following a non-compliant QA visit or a ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ QCQ inspection. I would review and monitor action plans and carry out ad-hoc and unannounced visits as needed to validate any actions taken. I worked closely with CQC, health, the fire service, 3rd sector organisations as needed. Prior to working as a QRO, I worked in a Learning Disability Operational Team, again for a local authority. Here I worked as an Assessing and Reviewing officer, carrying out client needs assessments and reviewing care packages to ensure they still met the individuals needs. I would work with an individual to find out their likes and dislikes and would advocate on their behalf when needed. I am passionate about supporting individuals to have a voice and have supported people to do so.
