About Lucy Kryachok

I am passionate about making a positive change in my community and the environment. I have worked towards environmental sustainability through my studies in mechanical engineering energy systems and engineering design work on net zero buildings. Over the years, I have become proficient in AutoCAD, HVAC, and plumbing design. I am also experienced in technical report writing, site inspections, project management, and Revit. Continuous learning, improving myself, and helping those around me are most important to me. Outside of my engineering work, I have a strong desire to help improve my communities. I enjoy volunteering in schools and getting younger students interested in the science and engineering fields. I have been ASHRAE Student activities chair for 2 years. Volunteering with local food banks and other organizations was always meaningful to me. My life goals significantly shifted on February 24th, 2022, when my home country, Ukraine, was invaded. I left my engineering work to help my family and friends at the start of the war. After seeing what was happening at the Polish Ukrainian border, I had to stay to help others. I volunteered for 3 months in Poland and then went to help in Ukraine. After 4 months, funding was running out so I returned to my work in Canada to help fund my new organization. My colleagues and I run the Hope Foundation, which is a non-profit organization, registered in Poland. Our current priority is our shelter for refugees in Poland and sending humanitarian aid into Ukraine. Our Future goals include using engineering design to help rebuild Ukraine. I have gained a tremendous amount of management, organization, and communication experience in a severely high pressure and life-altering environment. Both my volunteer and engineering work are essential parts of my life and I plan on continuing to learn, improve, and grow in both fields.
