Background

About Lucy Meads

I'm a graduate of The University of Manchester faculty of East Asian Languages, and have completed an MA in Translating and Interpreting. Previously working as a private home tutor of English Literature and Language in Manchester, UK, I'm now working at the GCCF as a Customer Service Advisor. I've been interested in Japanese film and literature for a long time, which motivated me to choose a related topic for my undergraduate dissertation:"Be Human: the humanity and sexuality of the cyborg, the nature of reality, and other themes in the films of Mamoru Oshii." During the course of my MA, I intend to deepen my knowledge of these topics with the intention of specialising in audiovisual and literary translation in the future. Until recently I lived in Japan, where I held a position at the internationally renowned language school Berlitz. While working there I taught a wide range of students, from company presidents to school children and housewives. As such, I gathered an extensive knowledge of the problems individuals encounter when translating between Japanese and English, which I hope to utilise to facilitate my own learning. Through LinkedIn, I hope to meet and connect with like-minded individuals, who are interested in Japan.
