About Lucy Newman

I have recently completed both an undergraduate LLB law degree and postgraduate MSc in Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Bristol and am now excited to start to pursue a career in law. I am a highly dedicated individual, who aims to bring both hard-work and a positive mindset to everything I do – whether it be my studies, employment, or volunteering commitments. Through my four years of study, I have developed a keen interest in both the law, and the people that surround it – particularly the current issues of the environment and access to justice. This period has also allowed me to develop strong transferrable skills such as legal and technical document analysis, excellent communication skills and a high level of attention to detail on both the small and the bigger picture. Outside of school I have also worked multiple part-time jobs and joined several volunteering commitments, for example, during my master’s year I worked part-time at Bristol City Museum and Zoo and ran a tutoring project for children of a refugee background. These have allowed me to further develop softer skills such as efficiency and effective organisation – balancing my commitments whilst simultaneously ensuring a high standard within all my endeavours, I take pride in every piece of work I produce. I have experience dealing with cases having volunteered at the University of Bristol Law Clinic as an advisor working on my own case load. This included dealing with clients, researching legal issues, drafting letters, and reporting back to each solicitor in charge of the case. I am a quick learner and am happy and willing to both learn on the job and adapt to new techniques and objectives, working as part of a team and individually to find the best combination of skills and working relations.
