About Lucy Roberts

At school I always felt I was no good at playing sport so following football, golf, rugby league and tennis was the closest I was ever likely to come to them. Now as a sports journalist, I have a wide knowledge and passion for all sports which is shown in my coverage for Female First. I’m a strong writer and I managed to secure an interview with football manager Anthony Johnson about Covid, and was paid for the copy by a number of newspapers. I’ve also had the opportunity through both paid and volunteer work to interview some high-profile athletes, including Nicola Adams, Hannah Cockroft and Beth Tweddle. I’m confident in sharing stories on social media and I also enjoy filming and editing. For example, I volunteered to film election night results for the BBC. Because of the standard of my writing and technical skills, I won the course prize for a 2-week all-expenses paid placement with the Chelsea media team which I will be doing in May. Although it isn't mandatory for my degree, I am also working towards achieving my NCTJ diploma which includes shorthand and I'm currently aiming towards passing 100wpm, so far I have got my 60wpm. In the little spare time I have, I read novels and enjoy walking with the dog. Before the pandemic, I had started to enjoy travelling to Europe and hope to resume that soon.
