About Lucy Shephard

As a Wellbeing Manager at Great Western Railway (GWR), I am passionate about embedding a culture of mental and physical well-being and raising awareness of its health benefits for our colleagues and customers. With over 15 years of experience in education and psychology, I have a strong background in academic research, teaching, and lecturing in health and social care, social work, and psychology of mental health. In my current role, I implement the Wellbeing Strategy and Railway Mental Health Charter within this complex organisation, working closely with HR, payroll, and internal communications teams. I manage the acquisition and utilisation of the health and well-being benefits, and design and implement a wellbeing calendar that addresses the industry's critical challenges. I also coordinate and manage special events and initiatives that promote and increase awareness, reduce absenteeism and presenteeism, and improve well-being across the business. I am skilled in project management, cross-functional communication, and stakeholder relationship building, and I am always looking for new ways to enhance the wellbeing of our employees and customers.
