About Lucy Smith

Co-founder director of HCUK Group (2010), a company providing a range of services including heritage and archaeological consultancy, landscape architecture, ecology management, visualisations and town planning. Based on a fully home-working approach from day one, HCUK delivers independent and balanced consultancy services to the development sector, typically in the form of Archaeological DBA's, Heritage Assessments, LVIA's, TVIA's, Planning Statements, Environmental Impact Assessments, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA's) and has an in-house visualisations team. I have been in continuous employment in the heritage sector since 2004, initially starting out as a researcher at Alan Baxter & Associates. I specialise in change affecting heritage assets and their settings, alteration to/conversion of Victorian hospitals, alterations and extensions to Georgian and Victorian townhouses and the potential impacts of new development on conservation areas.I have a passion for high quality design and informed urban change. I am interested in towns, cities and urban culture and how we go about identifying the significance of our modern built heritage. I also has particular knowledge of post-war housing developments, new towns, tall buildings and Victorian hospital architecture. I have retained a strong interest and knowledge in art and collections from my days studying at the Sainsbury Centre (UEA) and following a year working for a private collector in Bahrain, cataloguing and establishing a museum of moving image and recorded sound. I also spent a year working as an art consultant and gallery manager in a commercial art gallery prior to beginning my career in the heritage sector. I split time living between London and Lancashire and in my spare time is a keen club runner and a yoga practitioner/qualified yoga teacher.
