About Lucy Thomas

My practice is focused on both parenting issues and financial disputes. I am experienced in both negotiated settlements and Family Court litigation with respect to child related and financial disputes. I regularly appear in both the Family Court and the Children’s Court. I assist with surrogacy matters and have represented a number of applicant parents in relation to children with Gender Identity Disorder. I am also an experienced mediator who has chaired many alternative dispute mediation conferences, resulting in settlements. In addition to private client work, I regularly act as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in litigated cases. I am experienced in dealing with difficult issues surrounding allegations of abuse of children, both in the Family Court and in the Children’s Court, representing both the Department for Child Protection and Family Services and children. My role as an Independent Children’s Lawyer has given me extensive litigation experience including trial work which I have undertaken for private clients as well as in my capacity as an Independent Children’s Lawyer. I am focused on minimising the fallout of relationship breakdowns on families and in particular children.
