Background
About Luis Graca
Our group studies mechanisms that regulate the production of antibodies, and that are able to induce and maintain immune tolerance. We study the regulation of antibody production following vaccination, and also in immune-mediated diseases, such as autoimmunity, transplantation, and allergy. We aim to develop strategies that can reprogramme the immune system: improving antibody production in vaccination, or inducing the expansion of regulatory T cells capable of reinstating immune tolerance when the immune response leads to diseases, such as autoimmunity or allergy. We work with a large diversity of experimental tools, ranging from mathematical models, bioinformatics, models of human disease, and clinical samples. Specialties: Regulation of antibody production namely in vaccines; Induction and maintenance of immunological tolerance, particularly in transplantation, autoimmunity, and allergy. Mechanisms maintaining immune tolerance: Tfh and Tfr cells, regulatory T cells, NKT cells, cell-surface molecules, and cytokines. The role of monoclonal antibodies in tolerance induction.
