About Luis Souto

An university teacher with wide subject experience such as Genome Biology, Genetics, Neurobiology and Forensic Genetics, but also basic core sciences as Molecular and Celular Biology, Citology and Histology and Biochemistry. Published papers mainly in Genetics, strong initiative, created several projects, quite open to innovation and international connections (coordinates european project on education), scientific and seminars in Africa, Europe and south-Easian universities. Engaged in several science dissemination activities particularly to youth publics (dozens of conferences on forensic genetics, human genetics) and science teachers of secondary schools ( I've lead workshops for teachers in Portugal, UK, Bulgaria) and training interns for students. Genetics of East-Timor (several papers, two funded projects). Also interested in History of science and in historical issues. Politics and citizenship is also an area of my attention. I'm now President of Municipal Assembly of my town, Aveiro and member of Municipal Education Council and Infante D.Pedro Hospital Council. I've been a Member and former executive of associations devoted to the Protection of cultural heritage and traditions.
