About Luisa Orera.

I’ve been interested in health since I was born. Living in a family of healthcare professionals, my childhood was full of medical books and clinical cases discussions at family gatherings. I sneaked into my pediatrician father’s journals and have a look at articles I could hardly understand, but I felt they were full of knowledge; and I’ve always been attracted by knowledge. Right after getting my degree in Medicine and Surgery, I enrolled in an international MBA program (not the most common postgraduate option for a physician) that opened my eyes to the business and management side of health, as well as to a multicultural environment. This naturally led me to the pharma and biomedical multinational world, joining companies in which I have performed several roles along the years, from sales to medical affairs, managing regulatory, pharmacovigilance and clinical operations too. Always keeping an open eye on new development opportunities and always accepting the challenge. Not being afraid of change has enormous personal and professional rewards. Leading teams has been the most joyful and rich experience of all, as well as the most difficult because, as a manager, you have an enormous influence on the wellbeing of your team, on their performance and their development. I’ve always felt that I was dealing with the most precious asset of the company: people. In my current role of Global Medical Lead in Gastroenterology, I work with regional medical teams and global marketing organization to ensure global and regional alignment, with the support of other global functions. Strategy design, multicultural understanding, interactions with a wide variety of stakeholders, work for improving patients’ lives. I have a great job indeed. As a woman and working parent, I’ve always been able to develop a professional career and raise three girls (two of them twins) in a household in which mother and father have always been equal. With regards gender equality, we lead by example. I'm very passionate about music. Nothing compares with the thrill of high energy rock concerts!
