About Luiz do Valle

I am a software engineer at Google. Growing up, I wanted to be an astrophysicist because I yearned to understand how things work at a fundamental level and I dreamed about exploring the frontier of human knowledge. In high school and college, I found that Computer Science is a developing field that would allow me to have a direct impact not only in astrophysics but in a variety of areas. I graduated in May 2022 from Columbia University´s engineering school with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a concentration in intelligent systems. During my studies, I focused primarily on machine learning, system software, and algorithms. During my time as a Teaching Assistant for Computer Science courses, I had the opportunity to mentor other students and share the concepts that I enjoyed learning about. My internships at Microsoft and a law-tech startup gave me the chance to solve interesting, practical problems through collaboration with different groups. And the research I did in college allowed me to solve open-ended problems in different areas, like environmental engineering. In the near future, I hope to tackle challenging, cutting-edge problems that would benefit from machine learning and large software systems. In the long term, I want to be at the forefront of the tech industry and help drive advancements in areas like sustainability and education.
