About Lukas Jacobson

As an undergraduate researcher at Wake Forest University Department of Chemistry, I apply my biochemistry knowledge and skills to a novel method of detecting iron levels in the bloodstream using fluorescence spectroscopy. I have presented my work to a research group of fifteen people and plan to present a poster to the department in May. I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a certificate in Spanish from the University of Salamanca, Spain. I am passionate about connecting modern medicine to underserved communities, especially those who speak Spanish as their first language. I have gained valuable experience in healthcare and Spanish translation through volunteering at the Community Care Center of Forsyth County, a free clinic that serves predominantly Spanish-speaking patients, and at the CHI Saint Joseph Cancer Center, where I assisted patients undergoing chemotherapy. I have also developed skills in taking patient vitals, using Epic Systems, and maintaining appropriate bedside manners. I am looking for opportunities in biotechnology that allow me to leverage my research, healthcare, and Spanish skills to enhance patient and client experience.
