Background
About Luke Charleton
I am a Restructuring Partner who leads EY Strategy and Transactions (‘SaT’) in Ireland. I am licensed to act as an insolvency practitioner in Ireland and UK. I specialise in formal insolvency, independent business reviews, creditor and debtor advisory and in providing strategic restructuring advice to banks, financial institutions, equity investors, multinational and SME clients. I have been involved in many cross border situations involving the interaction of Irish restructuring and insolvency processes with the US, UK, European and off-shore jurisdiction processes. I have worked on highly complex assignments such as Nordic Aviation Capital, Shelbourne Hotel, Ashford Castle, Newbridge Credit Union, Opera CMBS, Petroceltic examinership, Dundrum Town Centre, Doonbeg Hotel, Eircom, Ladbrokes Ireland examinership, Spencer Dock and Waypoint. Other transactions include advising acquirers of NPLs on consensual and non-consensual realisation strategies. My previous role in EY was focused on corporate finance, where I was a Director in Transaction Advisory Services in UK. The role included public market, private equity, buy and sell side advice and corporate transactions. Transactions ranged in value from £1 million to £7 billion in value spread across over 12 countries. These included pe-acq DD, Stock Exchange transactions and vendor DD. I was seconded to Scottish Enterprise to its investment team. During this period, I restructured existing investments, negotiated the sale of investments, led new funding rounds and assisted in the development of new funds. In 2009 I was seconded to Bank of Scotland Business Support Unit to assist in its set up, provide advice on debt restructuring and to manage a customer portfolio. The EY SaT team in Ireland consists of 15 partners and 300 people in Belfast, Cork, Dublin and Limerick. I am on EY’s Irish leadership team that has the responsibility for setting and delivering EY's island of Ireland strategy. I am a Chartered Accountant and a member of ICAS, ISIP, R3 and Insol.
