A driven postdoctoral research associate under the supervision of Prof. Richard Payne. Currently developing novel conjugation chemistries to enable facile and rapid late-stage protein modification.Leading a project employing highly evolved selenocysteine-dependent bacterial cell lines for the recombinant expression of complex selenoproteins and associated plasmid contract design and cloning.Collaborating on associated DFT-based computational studies probing the mechanism of a novel protein conjugation reaction.Have previously lead projects focussed on the design and synthesis of acid-stable analogues of sulfotyrosine and their use in antithrombotic peptides, as well as the total synthesis of the antimicrobial peptide natural product Teixobactin.Have wide-ranging interests in novel protein chemistries, protein synthesis and semi-synthesis, expanded genetic code technologies, post-translational modifications (particularly tyrosine sulfation and its effect on peptide and protein activity), unnatural protein modifications (e.g. PEGylation), protein therapeutics and mRNA display technologies.
