Background

About Luke Emsley

I am currently immersed in training as a counsellor: supporting people with their mental health is something in which I am fully invested and want to build my career around. My considerable experience in the education sector (as a Teacher of English in secondary schools, and now as a supply teacher in the primary age phase) means I am an expert in working with young people. At the heart of all my successes as a teacher was my ability to connect with and build a trusting rapport with my students: this was when I first started considering moving towards the mental health support side of working with people. I will finish my Level 3 Counselling Diploma in June 2020 and will begin the two year, part time Level 4 qualification in September. As such, I am looking for work that will fit around my studies, particularly in student well-being and mental health support positions. I would also be very keen to work, on a part time basis, as a teacher in the primary phase. I am also very keen to utilise the post-compulsory education aspect of my PGCE by finding work in teaching to adult learners.
