About Luke Madden

I am a 3rd Year Physics and Theoretical Student in University of Galway. Interested in the research areas of computational physics, theoretical astrophysics, continuum mechanics, bio-mechanics and climate modelling. I am currently looking for summer internships or PhD opportunities in the above areas of research. I have previous experience working in a research environment through both the Stokes Modelling Workshop and through doing a research internship with the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in University of Galway. My research project focused on using python to produce periodic orbits of the gravitational N-Body problem and was supervised by Professor Michel Destrade. I have also been involved with tutoring first years as a TA for the first year computer science module CS103, which acts as an introduction to python for first year science students. On top of this, I acted as a CÉIM Peer Learning Leader in my second year of university where I facilitated the learning of first years by organising fun and informative activities based around their lectures. This year I have been lucky enough to be involved in the SoPhia schools outreach project. This project aims to get more young people, especially young women, interested in physics. As part of this project I travelled to a local secondary school to demonstrate physics experiments in front of them. I also spoke with the students about what it is like to study physics.
