About Luke Murphy

I am a Chartered Professional Engineer (Electrical) with 40 years' experience in industry. I'm registered to practice in every Australian State. I am also listed on the Register of Professional Engineers under the Electrical and Management Colleges and registered by the Board of Professional Engineers in Queensland, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA. What I offer is outsourced Professional Engineering skills for your business or your project or application. Working through a private consulting firm I can offer these services on an hourly basis. I have retained ongoing relationships with individual customers since 1992. My senior technical expertise includes power generation, high voltage design and protection systems for generation, and low voltage design for distribution and motor control. I have extensive experience in factory automation, process control, telemetry, SCADA and PLCs. My strong background in technical risk assessment, allows me to certify devices for design and item registration with Regulators such as Workcover in all states of Australia. I also specialise in technical review including techniques such as Root Cause Analysis, HAZOP, CHAZOP, and various Design Review techniques both as a Facilitator and a Reviewer. From a Project Management perspective, I offer skills and experience as a technical expert or as a general construction or engineering manager. I have also acted as an Expert Witness in matters before the Supreme Court in NSW, and Courts in ACT and Victoria, and NCAT in NSW, and for the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. Advice to the Courts included complex technical matters, product liability and personal injury. My experience includes four years as an indentured apprentice electrical fitter mechanic, followed by a further two years as a cadet engineer leading to my Electrical Engineering degree and subsequent membership of the Institution of Engineers (Electrical College and Management Colleges). For the remainder of my career I worked as a Consulting Engineer.
