About Luke Patterson

I graduated in 2023 from the University of Western Ontario, now known as Western University, which is located in London, Ontario, Canada. At Western, I completed my Master of Engineering Science, specializing in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. My thesis research focused on the simulation of a detailed finite element model of the human brain, and I subsequently developed and tuned a novel artificial intelligence model to predict brain axon fiber tract axial strain in this finite element model. My thesis united three areas of active research: soft tissue biomechanics and their behaviour under load, computational modelling of the human body and brain, and artificial intelligence. This work strengthened the link between blunt brain impact kinematics, such as rotational velocity, and the damage caused by mild traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions. Prior to my time at Western, I completed my Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. As part of this degree, I completed a minor in bioengineering, a certificate in engineering business, and 20 months of internships between two different companies. I like to think outside the box and solve problems effectively and efficiently. My current career development goals are to expand my engineering knowledge and abilities and learn useful, practical skills that I can apply in a professional and challenging engineering environment. I'm interested in the fields of biomechanics, CAE, composite materials, aerospace engineering, and medical devices.
