About Luke Pigram

What do I love most about my job as a corporate and commercial lawyer? The answer is probably a little bit different to what you might expect from most corporate lawyers. Although I do enjoy the technical aspects of practising law and there is definitely a sense of excitement that comes from managing large, complex deals (not to mention a huge sense of achievement once a deal is done). these are not the main reasons I enjoy my job. The best part of my job is learning how different businesses in different industry sectors are run and getting the backstory of how these businesses have grown to be what they are today. Not only is this aspect of my job interesting but understanding what makes businesses and their owners tick is also a key aspect (of increasing importance) when advising a client on a sale or acquisition. My current role as a corporate lawyer, involves advising clients on private and public complex M&A and general corporate / commercial law matters. As a lawyer with PwC, the opportunity to manage large teams across various disciplines including financial advisory, tax and deals, develop strong relationships with clients based on trust, learn about their business and watch them grow through well thought out, value creating acquisitions is something that I am lucky enough to be involved with every day. During my 10 + years with PwC, I have worked with a diverse range of clients, including start-ups, small-medium sized businesses, Australian State and Territory governments, ASX listed companies and large multinational corporations. I have also worked in various roles with PwC Australia that have spanned across several specialist teams within PwC’s tax and legal practice, including- mergers and acquisitions- emerging technology- privacy and cyber security- general corporate and commercial; and - energy, resources and mining. I learned early in my career the need to have a broad skill set so that I could offer my client’s a holistic, commercial approach to not only their legal problems but broader business issues as well.10
