About Luke Riddell
I have recently completed my PhD in chemistry at Utrecht University as a member of the Bruijnincx research group. My research broadly focused on the valorisation of lignin, through transformation organic chemistry towards marerials, and development of IR-chemometric models to assist in material property prediction. Furthermore, I designed and synthesised novel, lignin-derived lactones for use as monomers toward novel bioderived polyesters. I completed my Masters in Chemistry (MCHEM) at the University of Bath in 2019, wherein I focussed on the synthesis of magnesium BDI complexes with analogous reactivity to those of the far rarer lanthanides. My overall research interests lean towards sustainability, organic and organometallic synthesis, and implementation of chemometric (machine learning) methods to assist with data analysis.
