About Luke Rush

I am a recent graduate of Goshen College, earning my B.A in Physics with minors in Mathematics, Global Economics, and Spanish. I am passionate about intercultural communication and collaboration and have spent considerable time abroad studying and being a positive presence in small communities around the world. I plan to attend graduate school in an engineering, data, or economics-related field. I am seeking internship and job experiences to gain experience, help discern fields of interest, and prepare for graduate school. I am interested in climate change and sustainable engineering solutions to pressing issues. My educational background in physics and a variety of other fields is uniquely interdisciplinary and prepares me for highly collaborative work. I have research experience from my years at Goshen College designing devices to perform air quality monitoring around the county. I also spent a summer at Oregon State University as an REU fellow in the robotics department, working with Dr. Naomi Fitter. I have a growing interest in data science and the use of data in interdisciplinary projects to help make decisions. I have experience with several of the powerful Python data science packages (numpy, pandas, matplotlib) and with several machine learning techniques (k-nearest neighbors, multiple linear and logistic regression, naive bayes) from a Machine Learning course. I am also interested in international development; designing creative solutions for sustainable development in vulnerable communities around the world. My educational background in Global Economics and international education experiences in Peru, Spain, Ecuador, and India have prepared me to perform effective interdisciplinary and intercultural work necessary in this field. I am from a small town in Indiana, but love to travel and see the world. I have spent considerable time abroad in various parts of the world, primarily Latin America. I am conversational in Spanish and continue to pursue opportunities to strengthen my language skills. I love being active and spending time outdoors; hiking, camping, boating, and other exciting adventures. I enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, and playing board games.
