About Luke Ryan

I began my career with Wormald as an electrical apprentice in 2004, remaining with the company as a tradesman until 2009 when I moved away from Toowoomba and felt it was time to further my skills and knowledge and was successful in gaining employment at Savanna Energy. My role with Savanna Energy primarily involved the installation, upgrading, maintenance and servicing of 240V/415V and 24VDC control circuits on both drilling and well service rigs working in Surat and Bowen coal seam gas basins. Through these tasks I further developed my proficient fault finding skills and gained an extensive knowledge of PLC circuits and motor control circuits. This role exposed me to a variety of challenges which I thoroughly enjoyed. It also gave me a great understanding of rig operations and relating services. In August 2013, I left my job at Savanna and gained a position at Surepoint Group. With this role, I was fortunate enough to work on the Pangaea rig ‘Big Foot’, a 3 AC drive National Oilwell Varco (NOV) rig. After the project on this rig was halted, I gained a job with Enerdrill where I was posted to Rig 2. Following completion of the contract with this rig, I returned to Wormald early in 2015. Upon my return to Wormald, role involved many various tasks and to just name a few customer liaising, quoting, stocktaking, warehouse organising and scheduling work for 6 technicians were the most common. In May 2020, I moved to Port Macquarie and was successful in gaining the position of Assistant Manager at Actrol. This role further enhanced my customer service and people skills. It also involved stocktaking, inventory ordering, preparing orders, warehouse work and forklift driving. In June 2021, I left this role to travel and worked various casual FIFO electrician roles. Mainly as a casual shutdown electrician but also other maintenance roles. The companies and sites I worked on/for include BHP, Ventia, Santos, Compass Group, ICE Engineering and Glencore. In July 2023, I gained fulltime employment as a Flight Simulator Technician with Thales Group. In this role I carry out repairs and testing on audio visual, hydraulic, computer and avionic systems. Due to my large exposure to many facilities and varying sites plus my excellent people skills, I believe I have a wide enough knowledge base and existing skillset to successfully carry out any role.
