About Luke Starkey

I am an interior designer with more than eight years of experience working within team and leadership roles, with a specialisation in how the built environment can be designed with all individuals in mind.This can be seen in the work of my final year at university, with a focus on neurodiversity and the relationship between individuals and interior spaces. These projects, Head Space and FOCI, were workspace centred designs and were highly commended, appreciated and praised at our 2022 Manchester School of Art degree show. Both won the Interior Design Research and Context Award for their extensive and exceptional content, with the rewarding body noting:‘Both projects were supported by ambitious primary research which directly led to a human centred design proposal. The outcomes are sensitively informed by the protagonists using the space – also highlighting an inclusivity and barrier free design options for neurodiverse audience.’After being taught in three separate design sectors: Interior Design, Industrial and Product Design and 3D Design, I pride myself on approaching each project from a human design standpoint and understand the importance of designing for the future. With almost four years of experience working as part of a team and being in a customer facing role for a leading retail brand, I have gathered a wealth of customer service skills in busy but demanding environments that I am actively expanding upon. In this role, I was responsible for co-managing a team of 31 people, IT training and support, time management, and ongoing customer care across the entire range of our products and services. This role gave me a great amount of confidence in dealing with a wide range of customers, complaint resolution and follow up customer care.Currently, I am employed by BDP (Building Design Partnership) as a Graduate Interior Design. I started the role towards the end of September 2022 and I am focused on settling in within the team and making my mark in the design world as a fresh graduate.
