About Luuc Brans

I'm a political-cultural sociologist, interested in anything on the intersection of culture, politics and the climate crisis. Holding a PhD in Sociology (KU Leuven, 2024), I showed in my dissertation how key players in fashion respond to the climate crisis and bring the industry to a more sustainable future - or not. Studying professionals in fashion's cultural industry across Europe and the US, I ultimately demonstrate how the climate crisis makes cultural industries more political and ideological, challenging the professionals working within them. I defended my PhD in 2024 at KU Leuven, and spend two terms at Harvard University as a visting fellow as part of my PhD. The dissertation is partly published in peer-reviewed journals, with more to come. I currently work as a postdoc at KU Leuven, combined with Lecturer roles at Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Amsterdam. Interested to hear more?
