Background
About Luzius Rueedi
First and foremost I love to see the creative and courageous people I work with excel. Through them their organisations and networks will thrive - becoming more resilient and sustainable through innovation and collaboration. These are five innovation principles I deeply believe in: First: Innovate or die! This sounds blatant but many organisations are still focusing on efficiency and short term results all but ignoring the need for innovative and sustainable solutions for new growth. Putting on an 'innovation theater' will not do the job. We need to understand that it is crucial to reinvent the way we collaborate, do business and develop new smart solutions to address the challenges we as a society face today. Second: Define your desirable future! Use it as your beacon, your North Star, your long term vision to align your strategy and all your explorative actions with. Third: Strategy is innovation! The last two years have made clear, frameworks and assumptions can change quickly and unpredictably. Yes, the situation is volatile but the long term challenge we need focus on is to preserve our planet. Most business models are still based on exploitation and they will fail eventually. So start developing new circular and sustainable businesses, which will be even more profitable. The time is now! So adapt your strategy and identify potentials in order to build a more resilient and sustainable organisation, which can adapt fast to new circumstances by mastering challenges and profiting from opportunities. Oh and by the way: For all we know - living on Mars sucks! Fourth: Use Open Innovation deliberately and build strong innovation networks. Due to constant and fundamental change we are going to see more and more integrated solutions across the value chain. Integrated 'smart' solutions unite social, ecological, technological and economical aspects which implies that there will be more interdisciplinary innovation with partners from different fields of expertise including research institutions, tech companies, manufacturers, professionals, designers and clients. Fifth: Don't focus on technology too early. Just because something is technologically feasible does not mean that it's desirable or viable. First you want to have a deep understanding what problem in which context you need to solve. Then you want to develop an innovative concept including validated use cases and/or business models. Meanwhile you screen technologies, choosing the one that best serves purpose and context. Keep in mind: Technology is a means to an end and not an end in itself.
