About Lydia Burton

Hi there! I am currently a full-time Clinical Coordinator with the Institute of Gerontology as well as an MPH/PhD student with an emphasis in Health Promotion. At the moment, I am collaborating with the Botanical Gardens in an effort to create an intervention aimed at promoting nutritional autonomy and indoor gardening for older adults experiencing cognitive decline and their care-partners. I am very interested in autonomy, self-efficacy, working with older adults, and nutrition; I fully believe that little changes in one's lifestyle can have a huge impact, and am honored to be able to create an intervention that carries these feelings forward. My goal is to make a change in how people perceive nutrition and, of course, to improve their confidence in living healthier and happier. My intervention will be used as a pilot study for the incorporation of accessible indoor gardening, health literacy, and nutritional self-efficacy to establish community gardens in food deserts in rural Georgia. I am fully trained in Good Clinical Practice, working with human participants, and in data management. To say I'm eager to use the skills I've learned while getting my MPH/PhD would be an understatement.
