About Lydia Harrell

I have about 13 years of tertiary teaching and research experience in Management and Education both in U.K and New Zealand. I currently work as a Qualifications Developer at Waihanga Ara Rau (Workforce Development Council, Construction & Infrastructure). The role involves the review and development of NZQA (The New Zealand Qualifications Authority) Qualifications, Micro-credentials and Skill Standards by engaging and collaborating with diverse stakeholders from the industry and vocational education providers. In my role as Lecturer (Applied Management/ Learner Capability) at Otago Polytechnic Auckland Campus, I have taught courses like Critical thinking, Academic Skills, Leadership, Strategic Management, Applied Management and Research Methods. Along with teaching, my role also involved learner capability implementation which is an advisory role for both staff and students in the Curriculum Innovation department. I graduated with a PHD (Education) from the Auckland University of Technology in August 2020. My PHD focused on prominent discourses of the Indian education context which lead to the creation of a particular kind of student subject who is compliant and docile. My thesis explores how this idea contradicts with the requirements of a 21st century knowledge worker who requires complex employability skills like problem solving, critical thinking, resilience and accountability. https://hail.to/opsitara-research/publication/55wGYmg/article/WW1uDnj I have also pursued a Masters in International Business and Human Resource Management from Leicester Business School, DeMontFort University U.K and a Cambridge CELTA from Language Link UK. My research interests are Social Psychology & Human Development; School Resilience; 21st century skills; & Education Discourse and I have also presented and published in international journals of management and Education.
