About Lydia Nishimwe
I'm currently a PhD student in Neural Machine Translation (NMT) at Inria Paris and Sorbonne Université. Previously, I completed a Master's of Engineering (Diplôme d'Ingénieur) in Mathematics and Computer Science from Centrale Nantes. My PhD topic in a nutshell: Most NMT models struggle to perform well on User-Generated Content (UGC), e.g. social media posts from Twitter, Reddit, etc. This is because these texts are non-standard, i.e. full of irregular spelling, slang, abbreviations, etc.(You know how people write on the Internet!) My work focuses on making translation models maintain their good performance when dealing with such texts. My research interests- Machine Translation - Lexical Normalization - Sentence Embeddings - Language Models My passions- Learning - Teaching - Solving problems - Languages - Music
