About Lyndee Knox
Lyndee Knox, PhD is founding director of the LA Net Community Health Research and Resource Network, a research and quality collaborator for safety net practices in LA. Dr. Knox is a former Clinical Psychologist with specializations in Early Childhood Development and high risk youths, and associate professor of Family Medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Knox served as co-director of the CDC-funded Southern California Center of Academic Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention for 10 years where she specialized in replication, scale and spread of successful community-based interventions for low-income families, including the CHW-delivered Madres a Madres program for high-risk families designed in collaboration with community members. Other work undertaken by Dr. Knox includes the design and start-up of the Lab Learning Space, an educational support program for children K-8th focused on improving access to innovative educational approaches and technologies for children from low-income families. Dr. Knox is the author or co-author of more than 100 articles and 3 books on high-risk communities and health including the American Medical Associations’ Connecting the Dots to Prevent Youth Violence and Beyond Suppression, published by Praeger International. Dr. Knox’s more recent work has focused on development and testing of health IT tools accessible to low-literacy and non-english speaking patients (PatientToc SDOH) to improve detection and response to unmet SDOH needs in primary care settings. During COVID, Dr. Knox led an Archstone Foundation-funded project to provide virtual SDOH screening and virtual service navigation support to vulnerable seniors. Dr. Knox's recent work includes work in practice improvement. She has directed facilitation programs for AHRQ-funded studies and CMS innovation initiatives and helped the Los Angeles VA, LA DHS, L.A. Care Health Plan among others in starting successful primary care practice facilitation programs including L.A. Care’s recent Help Me Grow initiative to improve developmental screening. Other work includes assisting in the development of the PF Handbook, AHRQ’s Primary Care Practice Facilitation Training curricula, How to Guide, and its recent 101 interactive modules Dr. Knox is a past board member of the National Health Foundation, and serves on advisory groups for EQUIP LA, AHRQs MUI initiative, and on an ONC funded project to examine best uses of SDOH data.
