About Lynne Morrow

I'm an opera/music theatre conductor and I love working with composers on new works. Recent Stage directing and Music directing for a Zoom musical: “Spring Awakening.” I’m a Consulting Scholar interested in Choral and Theatre groups, addressing new works or performance of existing works with American and African American topics and issues. I had recent work editing and dramaturging an opera, funded by Opera America. I enjoy this meticulous work. I give workshops and lectures on American Music, including African American Spirituals, with singing and historical lecture segments. Recent workshops have been about Black Composers, the history of Black composers in America, Freedom Songs, and performance practice of African American works. I direct the Oakland Symphony Chorus. We will go on our 3rd tour in Summer 2022, presenting our commissioned work, “Mass for Freedom,” based on African American Spirituals. I'm a semi-retired university professor of music at Sonoma State University. I want to combine music and travel around the world: conducting, coaching, educating groups about music of all genres, singing, and discussing the importance of music for culture and society.
