Background

About Lysandra Nothing

Lysandra Nothing (she/her) was born and raised in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, with deep roots in Bearskin Lake First Nation (Michikan Lake First Nation), a remote fly-in community in Northern Ontario, 433 km from Sioux Lookout. She is a proud Anishinaabekwe (Oji-Cree). Lysandra is a Print and Online Journalism program graduate at SAIT (2021) and has built a strong background in Indigenous relations. Lysandra grew up surrounded by grassroots advocacy such as involvement in #IdleNoMore movement in Ottawa, helped organize Niigaan: In Conversation—a grassroots initiative fostering dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities—and other advocacy initiatives include her Orange Shirt Day letter read in Parliament by MP Romeo Saganash. She has also led citywide Orange Shirt Day events, further amplifying awareness of Indigenous issues. Currently, Lysandra is an Industry Development Specialist at Indigenous Tourism Alberta, where she works closely with Indigenous tourism businesses to ensure their brands, goals, and visions are represented authentically. Lysandra is the southern Alberta regional representative. She is passionate about celebrating Indigenous resilience, culture, and community through tourism. Beyond her full-time role, Lysandra is a Youth Leader at Howl, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young people. She plays a key role in guiding Howl’s reconciliation efforts, believing in the power of gap years to provide youth with clarity and direction for their next steps. Lysandra currently works as a social media contractor, Indigenous relations consultant, and freelance writer for publications. When she’s not working, Lysandra enjoys a good cup of coffee and an outdoor walk with the wind on her skin.
