About Maarten Nijkrake

I am a physiotherapist with a PhD degree within the field of neurorehabilitation with a particular interest in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. Currently, I am employed at the department Rehabilitation and the Parkinson and Movement Disorders Centre of Nijmegen which is part of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. My clinical work is focused on rehabilitation of patients with a Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders. Additionally, I run 3D gait analysis (including kinematics, kinetics and sEMG) in order to give direction to interventions such as orthosis, shoe wear, functional exercise therapy,(focal) spasmolysis and surgery. Within the international Parkinson Team, I am the international physical therapy expert and implement ParkinsonNet (physiotherapy) networks in other countries like the United States, Norway, Luxembourg and Germany. Within the international networks I provide courses for ParkinsonNet physiotherapists and educate national or regional trainers who maintain and further expand the ParkinsonNet networks within their country or region.
