About Mabel Silva

As a Counselor at Sanctuary for Families and a Mental Health Clinician at Let's Talk Psychological Wellness, P.C, I provide a safe and supportive space for young, professional Black and Women of Color (WOC) to explore their identities, challenges, and goals with a specific focus on trauma, gender-based violence and the impacts of systematic violence on their livelihoods. I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a degree in Counseling Psychology, and I hold a limited permit to practice Mental Health Counseling in New York State.My clients come from diverse linguistic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, often as first-generation Americans. I use a variety of evidence-based and culturally responsive approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, feminist theory and multicultural counseling, to help them cope with the pressures and expectations of our ever-changing and demanding world. With compassion, a sense of humor, honesty, and care, I aim to empower my clients to shed their armors at the door and return to themselves, where the only expectation is to show up authentically and completely as themselves.
