About Mack Phillips

I am a strategist focused on bridging advances in sustainable land use in the natural environment with influencing market forces in cities and have an academic background in architecture, land use planning and resource theory. I have developed a number of successful international programs – including the Ontario Forest Conservation Easement Pilot, Forest Value Hubs, Forest Footprint for Cities, the Partner Forest Program, and the Sustainable Wood for Cities guide - in addition to fundraising, operations, and communications. I have a strong passion for networking and connecting the needs of stakeholders, clients, and peers to the resources they need to realise a more sustainable future. Currently my roles include program-related management of the Cities4Forests initiative and Partner Forest Program while leading operations (grant management, strategic planning, fundraising, contracts, etc.) of the company's nonprofit arm, Pilot Projects Collaborative. My prior research has been supported by SSHRC and MITACS and has covered topics such as the opportunity cost of optimal urbanization in suburban Montréal, the development of transit-oriented landscape amenities in exurban Sweden, and now focuses on mitigating negative and supporting positive impacts of urban consumption (including construction) on tropical forests and the global south.
