Background
About MacKenzie Ashmore
My senior year of high school, I was presented with two exceptional and insightful experiences that heavily influenced my aspirations in life. As a student at an independent high school called Watershed in Camden, Maine, I was given the opportunity to partake in a project of my choosing that gave me the chance to "make the world a better place." For this project, I decided to reach out to two House Representatives and a State Sentor and partake in a legislative internship that forever changed my perspective on the importance of politics and the process of legislation. I learned the intricacies of writing legislation, passing bills, providing testimony, and communicating with constituents, lobbyists, and other legislative workers in the Maine State House. Other skills and insights that I gained from this experience were unmeasurable, and I decided that I wanted to incorporate this experience into my long-term and life long goals. This, in conjunction with a mission trip to Guatemala City, Guatemala to volunteer at a school organization called Safe Passage for children of impoverished families, demonstrated the importance of human interpersonal relationships and connection. I became more familiar with the world, how it functions, and how it doesn't. My motivation in job search, study, and life experience is to focus on how to improve the world that we live in. I found that some of the most important aspects of life in this world is compassion, patience, empathy, and positive relationships. With these aspects in mind, I chose work and study that allowed me to practice my hand at these important aspects to life. I hope to also share my personal practices with others.
